Polished nickel fixtures set into a restored period interior. Proportions were worked out in relation to the existing cornices and ceiling rose, so the new lighting sits within the original detail rather than competing with it.

Our Design Approach

This architecture office, working inside a restored historic building, brings period detail and a contemporary working layout together under one roof. Our choice was polished nickel fixtures that respect the character of the building: a multi-tier chandelier in the meeting room, and pendants running vertically through the stairwell. Proportions were calculated one by one so as not to disturb the vertical rhythm of the high ceilings. The cool sheen of nickel was balanced with warm light sources, preserving the dignity of the period building while providing comfortable illumination for daily work.

Light Comfort in the Workplace

In office lighting, visual comfort matters as much as decorative identity. We planned glare-free, even illumination across the meeting table, reflection control in areas used for screen work, and low-brightness accents that make the shared areas feel warm. All fixtures were produced in our workshop and installed with mounting details that do not damage the historic fabric. The electrical infrastructure was prepared for scenarios that work together with daylight, so the office keeps a balance of artificial light that follows the changing natural light through the day.

Material and Craft in the Details

The polished nickel bodies were hand-finished in our workshop; the glass and metal junctions were designed with concealed-fixing solutions in keeping with the refined detail language of the historic building. The suspension system of the meeting room chandelier was detailed to carry onto the structural slab without damaging the original ceiling mouldings. Long-life LED sources and standard lamp holders mean maintenance can be carried out in short interventions that do not disrupt the office. The project was completed in six weeks through survey, sample approval, production and installation.
