Ada Kanlıca Baro Bahçe

Lighting for an events hall with a gabled timber ceiling. Large crystal chandeliers that carry the volume of the space were hung at the highest point of the ceiling; their scale was determined by considering the table layout beneath them together with the span of the hall. Low-level lighting along the sides provides a warm, soft base light throughout each event.

Our Design Approach

Ada Kanlıca Baro Bahçe is a meeting place set among the trees on the shore of the Bosphorus, where open and semi-open areas flow into one another. We designed the lighting so that it never competes with nature: in the garden, low-level fixtures with warm light graze the greenery, while inside the hall, pendants with brass details create an intimate focus over the tables. Light levels were staged for the different scenarios between sunset and closing, so the airy atmosphere of lunch service turns seamlessly into the dim, inviting mood of dinner.

Production and Installation Process

The project began with a site survey; the tree cover of the garden, the reflection off the water and the existing architecture were all recorded. Once the concept was approved, every fixture was custom made in our workshop, and the outdoor units were finished with coatings resistant to sea air. Installation was completed section by section without disrupting the venue's service schedule. IP-rated, easy-to-maintain bodies were used outdoors, while indoors we used light sources at 2700 Kelvin with high colour rendering. The result: elegant objects by day, warm islands of light that carry the identity of the space by night.

Light Planning and Comfort

We worked with measurable comfort values in both the garden and the hall: warm light in the 180-220 lux range on table surfaces, lower and softer levels along circulation routes, a colour temperature of 2700 Kelvin and high colour rendering. For the outdoor fixtures we chose a spectrum that reduces insect attraction, and corrosion-resistant finishes for the seafront conditions. By controlling the indoor and outdoor zones on separate circuits, the venue can change the atmosphere within seconds according to the weather and how busy it is.
