Mahkeme Restaurant

A restaurant in one of Istanbul's most characterful neighbourhoods. The lighting was deliberately kept plain, so the architecture of the space itself comes forward and the fixtures provide warmth at table level rather than dominating from above.

Our Design Approach

At Mahkeme Restaurant, on one of the most characterful streets of Beyoğlu, the lighting was deliberately kept in the background: here the leading role belongs to the architecture and the memory of the space. The pendants carry warmth down to table level while the ceiling plane is left plain; the wall lights show the stone and timber textures with a soft wash. The result is a lighting scheme that never feels new and will age together with the space.

Restaurant Light in a Historic Fabric

When adding lighting to historic buildings, the measure is reversibility and respect. All installation details were resolved without damaging the original surfaces, and cabling was routed along invisible paths. The colour temperature was fixed at a warm tone that does not fade the patina of the space. Separate scenarios were set up for the busy lunch trade and for evening dining, and the operator can switch between them at the touch of a button.

Details and Craft

The brass bodies and opal glass were hand-finished in our workshop. The drop of every pendant was adjusted on site against the ceiling level and the table layout. Long-life LED sources reduce maintenance to a minimum.

Process and Warranty

As in every project, the process began with a survey: the space was measured, sample units were submitted for approval, production was completed in our workshop and installation was carried out by our own team. All fixtures were delivered with long-life LED sources and easy-to-maintain standard lamp holders and access details. After handover, a commissioning visit fine-tuned the light levels under real conditions of use; our products are covered by warranty against manufacturing defects.

Our Light Comfort Standards

Warm, glare-free illumination in the 180-220 lux range on table surfaces, sufficient visibility for staff along the service lines, a colour temperature of 2700 Kelvin and high colour rendering that preserves the natural colour of the food were our standard on this project too. The transition between lunch and evening scenarios is made with a single button, and energy consumption fell markedly compared with the old installation.
